Congratulations to the 6 Saatchi Online artists in this exhibition at Michael Hoppen which closes this weekend. Entitled ‘Starting with a Photograph’, the works in the show, many of which have been sold, all begin with a photographic image – found or made. Beyond that, each piece is unique, sharing only an interest in exploring and expanding the limits of photography.

The show is curated by Rebecca Wilson, head of development and editor of Saatchi Online with support from Charlotte Nation, director of Michael Hoppen Contemporary. The artists exhibiting range from individuals who have not yet been seen to emerging talents. The work chosen shows not only the wide range of work at Saatchi Online, but also the very high standard presented on the site.

Saatchi Online was launched in May 2006 and is the leading art gallery website in the world with over 120,000 artists and art students showcasing their work on the site.

Michael Hoppen Contemporary acts for both emerging and renowned photographer artists from all around the world. It was established in 2000 and is a venue for collectors and enthusiasts to come and discover a wide variety of contemporary artists. The gallery has brought many leading photographers of the last 10 years into the public eye, and is a key presence in the international photography community.

Starting with a Photograph represents a synergy between the two art organisations, both of which are interested in the continual and evolving discourse around contemporary art and photography, and seek to promote innovative talent from around the globe.

Maurizio Anzeri graduated from the Slade in 2005 with an MA in Fine Art (Sculpture). He has shown his work at Riflemaker in London and at The Photographers’ Gallery. He has exhibited his work at art fairs with Saatchi Online and was one of 30 artists shortlisted for the 2008 Sovereign European Art Prize.

Gabriele Beveridge was born in Hong Kong in 1985 and is currently studying for an MA at the Slade.

David Birkin is an anthropologist and journalist. He is about to begin an MA at the Slade in October 2009.

Robin Cracknell was chosen by Marc Quinn to feature in the Saatchi Gallery/Guardian Prize in 2006. In 2007 he had a solo show at the Whitecross Gallery in London. His work is in various private collections and in the collection of the Spanish museum, Fundacion Privada Sorigue.

Hannah Dakin graduated in 2007 with an MA in Photography from LCC, University of the Arts, London. She has shown at WW Gallery in London and at this year’s Format ’09, International Photography Festival, Derby, and the Venice Biennale.

DY Kim was born in Seoul. He completed his BA in Photography at London College of Communication in 2009.
