Dear Friends,
It hasn’t been long since we relaunched this amazing place to share our art. In just 4 short months, our community of artists has grown more than 500%. You have invigorated this community and given new life to Saatchi Online.
I want to tell you about an exciting new feature we’re releasing today.
The main goal of Saatchi Online is to help create sustainable careers for artists, by promoting art work, helping to find buyers for your work and ultimately providing the opportunity to make more. In mid-March Saatchi Online will become a social marketplace helping you to sell original works of art and printed canvas. In preparation for this we have changed the upload process and added some tools to help you get your art work ready to sell. We’ve added fields in the upload process to include things such as shipping weight, dimensions, framing options, category, subject, medium, price selection and materials used.
As an artist on the site, your participation in the market place is entirely optional. You are welcome to fully participate in the community and maintain a large and vibrant portfolio without ever selling your work or making any financial obligation. However, if this is what you’ve been waiting for, we hope that what we have created will help to make it an easy, reliable, safe and rewarding process.
Sincerely,
Bruce Livingstone, CEO Saatchi Online

This is the best news I’ve heard since the internet was invented. You are all geniuses.
Vi ringrazio per tutto il lavoro che state facendo per promuovere la nostra creatività . Solo le MENTI ECCELSE amano l’arte.
Could the fact that you have to sign on to Saatchi to vote in showdown have anything to do with the 500% increase in members.
Over 2 years ago I remember always 3 to 4 thousand entries in showdown now with 500% more artist we only see 2900 entries. Why do you think this is.
Fantastic news! You are too kind. Thank you!

It can be very lonely making art – like walking in a mist at times. Your idea provides a much needed focal point for many of us artists.

How are you going to keep the tens of thousands of “artworks” created by art slaves in Asian sweatshops (most of them infringing copyright) from flooding saatchionline.com the way it did to destroy art on ebay?
I think it’s great to be able to sell artwork through Saatchi online and I’d love to do that. However, the art market is very complex and I really don’t know what prices to ask for. I would be delighted if a professional could advise me on that subject.
Hi Maria,
Just contact us at help@saatchionline.com. We will do our best to help you start selling.

Maravillosooooooooo
Great News. Looking forward to it.
Job’s a good’n!
algo no funciona pudieran explicarme
There’s not enough information about copyrights, who is in charge of printing, etc, etc…
you are my best gallery! I love you
Thank you for fantastic news, congratulations to all of you and myself
With my best wishes, Iwona
Thanks for the support not easy to FIND!!!
Help needed. Regarding frames, could you please specify (pictures?) what you mean by “Box”, “Edge” and “Omate”? That should reduce possible reshipping. I tried to google but was not satisfied. – Thanks!
- – - -
As far as I would say it’s an interesting concept. Unless you have a gallery representing for your work the complete marketing part remains at the artist, but you can redirect people, who like your art and want to buy, from your website, blog etcetera to a (hopefully) reliable site for purchasing it. If Saatchi-Online can handle the technical and financial part this may shake the other online art market platforms. – We will see.
“Ornate” – sorry -

Dear Add,
Please contact us here at help@saatchionline.com…
Team of professionals who still believe in contemporary art and promoting artists who are not “support” in their own country … thanks for keeping the spirit and enthusiasm for our work as artists! !
This is such a great idea! Already putting some works up for sale myself!
I was just wondering if there is going to be a ‘marketplace’, where it’s possible to see all the works that are for sale. It might be a nice feature for art enthusiasts in order to view work that they could potentially buy or collect. Just a suggestion!
Great work Saatchi!
Rob
Hello, Robert:
I read that you’d put works online for sale, so I hope you won’t mind give me some tips. When I tried to make my paintings available for sale, I was told to enter my government issued ID photo. My friend/”legal adviser” was adamant that I should not do it. Am I being silly and to miss out a great opportunity to sell my work and prints here?
Thank you!
Dear Robert,
We require ID for transaction made on our site. If you have any further questions, please send us a message at help@saatchionline.com..
Matthew,
Yes i’ve put works up for sale. Your government issued ID, just means a photocopy of your drivers liscence or passport or something for example,
so if you’re happy putting that up there’s no trouble. Presumably it’s only used for saatchi to make sure you’re who you say you are and are able to sell things in this country. As long as you’re not doing anything against the law or in any trouble with any government in the world you shouldn’t have a problem i don’t think. On the other hand, i don’t know why your legal advisor would have a problem with it? Perhaps becuase of the amount of money you’d actually recieve for a sale? I don’t know.. not sure i can help you unless i know what your problem is with the idea.
I’m happy to sell my prints, because i think any money for art is good.. and a bit of recognition would be nice.
All the best,
Robert
Thank you so much saachi !
Identity theft is a real problem these days. If it should happen to you it is a real nightmare.
I would be very worried about uploading a government ID photo of myself anywhere on the net.
Is there another way around this so that security is provided both for the artist and Saatchi. Unfortunately artist are often the prey of the scam artist.
Syra
Great idea. Some on-line galleries operate in this way very successfully. I am looking forward to learn more about this idea.
cool……..
It is a pleasure for all the artists, as me, have a part in your art/organisation. And your idea to build, for free, a marketplace to help us to look for buyers for our artworks is a real gift for everyone. Thank you very much for promoting artists who can’t have the personal release in the market process wth rhe galleries and the community’s buyers.
I will awaiting your beginning……!!!!! Tell me what I have to do.
THANK YOU AGAIN. ALL THE BEST.
Lets make lots of £££££££££ who cares about Hebrews 13,5. Love SVKart
thanks

amen let the show begin….g8 news thanks friends
I would like very much to put my artworks online for sale. However, I have reservations about putting my government issued ID photo online. Why is it necessary? Should I not worry about it?
Thank you dear friends! Great work!
Sales.. Yes!!! Thank you!
Dear Saatchi,
You should know that the way you have been conducting your Showdown gives Art a bad name. I believe that to be fair to the experience and professional artist. Showdown should be an open competition with established and experienced curators who study the artists professional experience and their submitted artwork for selection. Like a biennial not a random selection, that tries to emulate the Lotto concept. I respect Saatchi and I love being part of the Saatchi project but someone over there has to go and someone new who understands serious professional competition has to take over and conduct some serious competition for the serious artist. I hope someone at saatchi reads this and takes heed of such an important issue. I took the liberty of expressing this because of the large volume of people who are complaining about Showdown and the selection process. Selection should not be because I have many friends it should be based on professionalism. ART is a serious profession. An artists are passionate people.
I am here a few days and I like it!
I like “showdown” as criteria and voting will show how much some piece of art appeal to public. Maybe as Eric above sad, it can be PARTIALLY based on number of friends, but not globally. I don’t know number of members I am thinking of few hundred thousand. As I see every picture at “16 pics” round has 600 to over thousand votes, I am sure that it show public opinion.
Thanks !
That’s exactly what I was thinking about!
Yes Eric, that’s exactly what I was thinking about!.
So we should appreciate art based on the resume and training of the artist, rather than on the work?
No thanks.
Again thank you for your support.
I hope yo take what I wrote as some supportive advice from a professional to a professional. Don’t deviate my comments towards some type of insult directed to the company. It is not
On the other hand the selling art thru your website is the best Idea yet. This to me is uplifting and it shows that good ideas are being explored with diligence.
I’ve been trying for 2 weeks to upload images and have gotten an”Error on Page” symbol for every attempted upload. If I push to the final submit button, the progress bar starts and then I get a http: error page.
“This error (HTTP 500 Internal Server Error) means that the website you are visiting had a server problem which prevented the webpage from displaying.”
Image size is 24×32 inches @360 dpi. Jpg file sizes range from 26 to 46 MB.
Can I get some guidance as to what to do?
Ray
Dear Ray,
Please send us a message at help@saatchionline.com — we can help you out…
I was able to upload images last night, Mar. 5.
Great ideia to go ahead in the art market
ok
Hello. I am interested to sell my paintings, as decorative items and artworks.
I think it would be a good idea for your online gallery to contact architecture and room design companies, to encourage their customers, for instance, who build a new house, hotel or office building to buy contemporary art.
Also, invite the important investors and collectors to take the best artworks,
for their huge art collections.
Dear Saatchi , thank you !!!
thank you Saatchi in theory at least this seems to be a genuine opportunity.
I am currently studying for a degree and at this point it doesn’t look as if graduation will mean a great deal in the real world.
thankz saatchi
Superb initiative
Your work is simply unique!
Compliments
Patrick Corrado.
I think this will be a fantastic thing ! The online Art sales ! Wow I can’t wait until it starts, I have already put some of my best pieces as listed for sale.
It will be interesting to see the feedback and if the pricing is effective or not.
A fantastic way to ride the wave of the ART world market place.
Than you for this addition to an already great conceptual site!
I’m on facebook…saatchi can still help me to upload it from there. Adekunle idowu samuel.
Thanks Saatchi for art!
I love your website, but cannot understand how to get on ‘showdown’
keep up the good work
Great idea. Just uploading my images now.
Thanks a lot.

Thank you Saatchi for this opportunity to share and discover…Kind regards from senegal West Africa.
EBOO
Has anyone else seen the comments that have been posted today and yesterday?
It’s not always about the money. Not everyone is uploading rubbish. I do think there should be some kind of monitor to stop bad pics from ever getting on the site.
hello
I’m a bit confused about saatchionline..
If we own our another online print gallery, are we allowed to ask the artists we like if they would also like to upload their work to our gallery too?
I don’t want to break the rules and be accused of spamming or anything…
please can you advise
Many thanks
I would imagine that an artist can upload his art to any gallery or print service they want to.
The artist owns the copyright so it is their choice.
Thanks to Saatchi for giving something back to the artists and there are a lot of great artists on this site.
I think any artist who wants to sell their art has to promote themeselves and their art in as many ways possible including self promotion and other art websites too.
It would be good if this site posted some results about the top selling prints via Saatchi online etc.
Also, the critics choices are always interesting but it might be good to post some articles by marketing people agents etc for artists on how to sell and promote their art.
Maybe have a section on the site for buyers too where people can place their commissions for artists and fees offered.
For example collector looking for artist to creat a painting or sculpture etc of this or that subject or genre.
Hi another query..
I was selling my originals for 500,000 each
because print rights at £100 commission per 60,000 population = 30,000 in the uk and 300,000 in the USA and 500,000 worldwide…
I now see that we are being restricted here by being forced to sell originals for under 20,000… I would only be prepared to do this if there is a sticker on the back of the pictuer ‘for personal viewing use only. Prints are also available, this is not the sole original’
please can you let me know about this
Many thanks
to see my work on this site look for Capella Silverangel or http://www.saatchionline.com/capella
what I miss about the old site is:
-the online pallet
– the rotating paintings
– alphabetical index of artists
although this is like facebeek for artists it is rather confusing to navigate and I feel like a drop of water in the Atlantic Ocean with regards to being seen. I feel like we have to join the rat race and aggressively add random ”friends” in order to get seen.
What is nice though is the size of the pictures and quality when viewing online though the thumb nails can’t be adjusted for images that were uploaded before the change over.
Good idea!!!
Thanks a lot Saatchionline team!
Kind regards from Buenos Aires, Argentina
its intersting to see how saatchi online gets more and more artists for their innovative project. with my first account as “nat krier” (pseudonym) i had also some interesting years with the old plattform – specially with saatchi magazine.
best regards from germany

Just reading through some comments about Saatchi Showdown
I know someone who was working very hard as a helper on a respected World Wide Art Competition in London. This is what she allegedly saw with her own eyes.
When the judges asses each piece of work, it would either go through or not and if a judges favourite artist or work was not put through, they would often have the art put back in the competition, where it would automatically qualify.
How often would this happen I asked? Oh, she replied often. If this is true or not I do not know; however, read below.
I personally do not take art competitions seriously and never will, its just for fun.
At Saatchi Showdown we do not have to pay to enter, its a great idea and needs a little tweeking.. May I suggest. A few Judges are randomly selected form within the Saatchi Online Community; they cannot compete when judging,, they are simply voting within a criteria of rules; a bit like a jury. This needs more thought, so lets see as an art loving community, if we can build on this with some creativity.
Nick
Would it be better to have categoris for showdown. Like Paintings, drawings sculpture installation photos or digital etc.
Then for showdown clickable thumbnails on the pages which would mean that people can be able to see more of the work entered for showdown and make their selections that way?
Going page by page with two pictures side by side takes too long and it doesnt seem fair on entrants whose images do not show up at the front.
this is great. finally a chance to market my work. even if i don’t sell anything; just the hope of selling is very encouraging. there are so many artists who are very good in the world today. one really feels swamped by the competition.
of course we are not working for money, we are working because we need to paint. but we also need to survive.
thank you for everything saatchi. sc
This is so easy……..and i like easy!
where do we send the W-9′s? i seemed to missed that part.
i miss the newsfeed
So I was wondering how are the sales going? I’ve yet to sell something, but is there a way to let us know what is selling?
