For its next exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery Phillips de Pury & Company“>Phillips de Pury & Company is presenting a survey of works by artists from the Middle East and North Africa who are some of the most pioneering Arab and Iranian artists of the Modern era. These important works by the forefathers of the rapidly developing contemporary art scene in the region have never before been exhibited in the UK.
The exhibition displays the key examples by these artists who pioneered the development of art practices in the region: from artists being passive recipients of a dominant Western discourse to the creation of a wholly individual art movement which contributes to the global art of our age.
Works by Syrian artists Louay Kayali and Fateh Moudarres, Iraqi artists Shaker Hassan Al-Said, Suad Al-
Attar, Abdul Qader Al-Rassam, Madiha Umar and Ismail Fattah, Egyptian artists Gazbia Sirry, Adam
Henein and Abdul Hafiz Farghali, Iranian artists Massoud Arabshahi, Mohsen Vaziri-Moghadam will be
shown as well as Lebanese artists Etel Adnan, Huguette Caland and Hussein Madi, Tunisian artist Nja
Mahdaoui, Palestinian artist Samia Halaby, Moroccan artist Farid Belkahia, and Khaled Ben Slimane from
Tunisia.
The show has been curated by sheikha Lulu al-Sabah, International Specialist, Middle East at Phillips de
Pury & Company.
