Every Showdown we receive thousands of submissions. On top of that, hundreds of thousands of art lovers from around the world will see and have the opportunity to cast a vote for your work. In order to make sure your submission stands out, here are some pointers that might help you win the Collage Showdown!
Presentation: Making sure your art can be viewed accurately is one of the most important elements of Showdown. Lighting, cropping and presentation are essential when submitting an image of your work. Take pride in your art and show us you deserve to win! Make sure that the background isn’t showing when you crop your image, there aren’t any hot spots in the lighting and be sure to upload high quality images by not overly compressing image files.

Fill Out All the Boxes: We want to know about you. What’s more art collectors will want as well. Make sure you are categorizing and describe your Showdown submission in the most effective way. If you have an artist statement, we strongly encourage you to put it on your profile page. An artist statement can be anything as long as you think it helps people to understand how you make your work. It can describe what you are thinking about, why you make art or even the process in how you made something. Always ask yourself:who, what,where, when, why and how.

Promote & Market Yourself: The first round of the competition is open for public voting. Other artists, art lovers and collectors will have the chance to cast their vote for your work. Let everyone know that you are participating in the Showdown. In your profile, you’ll find a link to your specific submission. Post your link to facebook, tweet about it, add your submission to Tumblr and of course email your friends and family. Feel free to promote your submission on other artist communities.
The second round will be led by Rebecca Wilson, Director of the Saatchi Gallery London. Joining her in second round voting will be Gemma de Cruz, Founder & Editor-in-Chief of the Saatchi Gallery Magazine Art & Music. The final round will be judged by internationally renowned artist Wangechi Mutu.

Understand that the collage Showdown isn’t restrained to “actual collage art” but art in the spirit and ideas of collage.

Overview: Dada, one of the crucially significant movements of the historical avant-garde, was born in the heart ofEurope in the midst of World War I. In the wake of that brutal conflict, Dadaists raucously challenged tradition, and art-making was changed forever.
The most comprehensive museum exhibition of Dada art ever mounted in the United States, Dada features painting, sculpture, photography, film, collage, and readymades emerging in six cities: Zurich, Berlin, Hannover, Cologne, New York, and Paris. The exhibition presents many of the most influential figures in the history of modernism, as well as others less known, including Tristan Tzara, Hans Arp, Sophie Taeuber, Hans Richter, Hannah Höch, Raoul Hausmann, George Grosz, John Heartfield, Kurt Schwitters, Max Ernst, Francis Picabia, Man Ray, and Marcel Duchamp.

Man Ray in the Age of Electricity

Electricity came into widespread use in the first decades of the twentieth century revolutionizing all aspects of society. Individuals in vastly different fields started to develop ways to employ this remarkable new resource. In the case of the Dada and Surrealist artist Man Ray (1890-1976), he used electricity in the 1920s and later in two new types of photographs: solarized images and rayographs. Solarized images were made by turning the electric lights on briefly in the darkroom as the negatives or photographs developed, creating a halo effect around the person or object portrayed. An ethereal, other-worldly feeling is projected. Rayographs were created by placing objects on light-sensitive paper and turning on the lights. The images look like x-rays. These two new art forms were so original, startling and compelling that they continue to amaze viewers today. This exhibition will focus on Man Ray’s solarized images and rayographs. Approximately 40 to 45 photographs will be presented in this special exhibition. A scholarly brochure will accompany the show. The exhibition runs from May 20 to August 13, 2006.”

Hi, I have finally been able to submit a piece to showdown you need to get the definitions correct, in materials etc, Assemblage/collage then method Decoupage this has worked for me.View my piece ” El Roi ” in the showdown and good luck with your entry.
As the others, I am very sad that I can’t submit the image of the work for the Showdown. Was easier before!
